Tortured Tourmaline Tour

Home Dark Ride

Overview

During the pandemic, my group of friends, led by Andrew Bartleet, decided to build a haunted dark ride from scratch in his garage. We began the design process with a focus on story, conceptualizing a tale based on the myths surrounding the Tourmaline gem found locally in Oceanside. We then moved forward with designing a minecart dark ride that would take guests through eerie remains of an abandoned (and possibly haunted) mine. I primarily worked on story, concept development, and production design. This project holds a special place in my heart because it gave me a chance to practice themed entertainment design skills during quarantine and an opportunity to physically fabricate, paint, and bring to life ideas that we had designed. We’ve continued to modify the dark ride for different holidays, including Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and a scaled-down version for Halloween 2021 themed to a twisted carnival.
